Joseph (Joe) Wayne Halstead

Obituary

Joseph Wayne Halstead, 72, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, was found at his home on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.

Joe was born on October 24, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Joe Edmund and Evelyn (Hunt) Halstead.  Joe was raised and began his education in Cleveland where he later graduated.  Following high school, Joe attended college at Northeastern A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma.  Joe then joined the United States Marine Corp and served his country valiantly.  He was later honorably discharged and returned to Cleveland.  Joe worked for the Local Pipefitters Union for several years as well as for Indian Electric, as a park ranger and was the foreman for a local ranch near Mannford.  Joe lastly worked as an auto mechanic at Randy's Auto.

Joe was a very private person.  However, he always enjoyed going out with his friends to play a round of golf or going hunting and fishing. Faye O'Dell (Joe's high school football coach and teacher) was a very influential person in Joe's life which he spoke of often. Coach O'Dell was a Marine which influenced Joe to join the Marines. Survivors are his sister Donna and her husband Shelby Lauener of Perkins, Oklahoma, niece Amber Hermes and her husband Howard of Glenpool, Oklahoma; one great-niece Jorja as well as other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.  Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com.
