Helen Laverne Hooper was born in Fittstown, Oklahoma (near Ada) on June 6, 1941. She was the daughter of John Steve and Flora Bell (Blevins) Tackett. Helen attended school in Fittstown, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school from McLish High School in 1960.
Upon graduation from high school Helen was married and raised two sons, Russell and Charles. They later moved to Collinsville where they resided in the 1970's. While residing in Collinsville, Helen accepted a position working for Valhoma Industries making dog collars as part of their pet supply company.
In the early 1980's, Helen met Jimmie Loyd Hooper. Helen relocated to Cleveland in 1983 and was married to Jimmie on December 29, 1989 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Cleveland and Helen continued to work for Valhoma until the closure of the company in 2003. She then accepted part time work at the Hominy Nursing Home and the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home until she was no longer able to work as a certified nurses assistant; retiring at the age of sixty-five.
Helen enjoyed reading, cooking and dancing. She loved to have her family close and cooking for them. She also dearly loved her dog, Peppy.
Helen passed from this life on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Porta Caeli House in Tulsa at the age of seventy-six. Jimmie preceded her in death on April 12, 2016. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Jerry Tackett, James Tackett, Howard Tackett and Hollis Tackett; sister, Edna Spradlin; son, Charles Williams.
She is survived by children, Russell Scott Williams of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Jimmie Wayne Hooper of Mannford, Oklahoma, Dianna Burgess of Mannford, Oklahoma, Donna Christine Myers of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two brothers, Carl Tackett of Fittstown, Oklahoma and Eugene Tackett of San Diego, Claifornia; two sisters Beatrice Rowley of Glenpool, Oklahoma and Cleo Williams of California; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the First Baptist Church. Cremation has been entrusted to the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
